Dickey's Barbecue Pit

Me: "My sausage smells like wet dog. It doesn't taste like wet dog, though... not that I know what a wet dog tastes like".

That was the most recent visit to Dickey's barbecue chain in Cedar Park, where the guys were as friendly as usual, but the flavors all seemed to be just a little bit off. We'd been a few times before, and found it to be decent food at reasonable prices. This time seemed like we paid a little too much and didn't enjoy it as much.

They have daily specials for fair prices. The place is clean and fast and friendly. You order at the counter and everything is already prepared, so you get your food right away. I like their sauce, and they do something that I have to give props for... they keep the sauce warm and you can help yourself to as much as you need from the warming table next to the soda fountains. As I already mentioned, my sausage smelled funny last time, but tasted fine. It was a little dry, though. The sauce helped that, and not inhaling immediately before taking a bite also helped. The macaroni and cheese is inconsistent. The first time I had it, it was mushy and very bland. This last time it was creamy and cheesy and better than I had remembered. The beans were also inconsistent. Maybe they changed up some recipes, or had a different cook. My husband said the same thing about his meal this time.
